Stop Rushing, Start Living: A Conversation on Slow Living and Mental Health
In the latest episode of Imole, I had a powerful conversation with psychotherapist Amanda Iheme about the concept of slow living and its impact on mental health. As someone who’s always moving from one task to the next, this topic hit home for me.
“We’ve been conditioned to believe that speed equals success,” Amanda pointed out, and it struck me how often I push myself to the limit, thinking I’m achieving more. But what if that constant rushing is hurting us?
Amanda broke it down perfectly. Slow living isn’t about giving up on our ambitions. It’s about living with intention, taking time to breathe, and not letting the pressure of “doing it all” consume us. As we discussed, I realized that burnout—something so many of us face—isn’t just about being tired. It’s about losing ourselves in the race for more.
“There’s power in reclaiming your time,” Amanda said. That line stayed with me. Sometimes, slowing down can make you more productive, creative, and mentally clear. We can achieve more by setting boundaries, practicing mindfulness, and making space for rest. Amanda even shared stories of her clients who found more fulfillment and joy after embracing this mindset.
If you’re always on the go, trying to keep up with life’s demands, this episode might be the shift you need. As Amanda beautifully said, “Sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is nothing at all.”
